Expedition Blog

2041 was founded by polar explorer, environmental leader and public speaker Robert Swan, OBE, the first person in history to walk to both the North and South Poles. Swan has dedicated his life to the preservation of Antarctica by the promotion of recycling, renewable energy and sustainability to combat the effects of climate change.

Exploring Brown Bluff

We are all truly humbled by the sheer, untouched beauty of Antarctica as the IAE 2017 team continues further along the Peninsula. Today we visited the famous Browns Bluff, where we marveled at the painted rock towering high above us. Our team traveled by Zodiac, small inflatable vessels, through an incredible cove filled with ice monoliths each as different as the participants on our team.

Icebergs split apart and turn around right before our eyes, these are chunks of ice that have broken off from a glacier just miles away. The tones of teal and blue are unlike any other on the planet, the light reflects from the ice and creates colors mesmerizing to us all. We are fortunate to have such a gorgeous, sunny day with clouds that separate the light across the landscape and illuminate the various textures of the ice.

Back on board, the IAE members open up as we all get to know each other through small presentations that explain who we are and where we are going. Its a joy to learn more about the diversity of backgrounds and stories that make the IAE 2017 expedition such a unique and inspirational experience for all on board. The effort that many have gone through to be here is an inspiration in itself, let alone the breath-taking scenery that surrounds us.

Our goal is to translate the inspiration and excitement from this amazing experience into real changes back in our daily lives, and help each other in doing so. If the IAE stewards of this trip tell their story well of how truly incredible Antarctica and the changes happening here really is, even to one individual, then our expedition here is with real purpose and promotes real change. If everyone does a little, a lot gets done.
