Offsetting Header

Our everyday actions consume energy and produce carbon dioxide emissions, for example driving a car, heating a home or flying. Offsetting is a way of compensating for the emissions produced with an equivalent carbon dioxide saving.

We acknowledge that carbon offsetting is not a cure for climate change but it can help raise awareness and reduce the impact of our actions.

Think global, act local

During the course of the 2041 Voyage for Cleaner Energy we plan to support a global offsetting project as well as a local project relevant to the country our sailboat 2041 is stationed.

Our global project - Cool Earth

In the next 24 hours, deforestation will release as much CO2 into the atmosphere as 8 million people flying from London to New York. That’s about 100 acres cleared every minute to create farmland for crops such as soya or palm oil, or for cattle ranching.

Rainforests are made of living carbon - more than 260 tonnes are locked away in each acre. Destroying them releases more climate warming CO2 each year than the entire USA.

Cool Earth is a charity that protects endangered rainforest. This combats global warming, protects ecosystems and provides sustainable jobs for local people.

With your money, Cool Earth secures threatened rainforest. They put it in a local trust, and protect it around the clock to keep the carbon where it belongs.

Cool Earth employs local people to do the work, help fund community health and education services and make sure the rainforest is worth more standing than cut down.

Our local project - The Climate Trust

The Climate Trust is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to providing solutions to stabilize our rapidly changing climate.

The sole mission of The Climate Trust is to promote climate change solutions by providing high quality greenhouse gas offset projects and advancing sound offset policy.

Dale S Byrk Quote

The Climate Trust success is a result of their business-oriented approach. The Climate Trust’s projects are expected to offset nearly 2.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide from $8.8 million in investments – making them one of the largest and most experienced offset buyers in the U.S. and world markets.
